Past Performance?

I laughed when I read this: "Advice Is Key to a Secure Retirement - Reports by EBRI and LIMRA suggest a looming retirement income crisis could still be averted in some cases by advisor intervention."

Now who would be giving this advice? I assume the same ones that were giving it in 2006 & 2007, which led many folks to loose 40% of the value of their 401k!

Study finance yourself. No need to pay someone else a big fee, which they get regardless of how well your investments do.

Behaviors at Work

It's something that needs to be taken on in our entire culture. I'm amazed at what sports players get by with. Shouldn't they be prosecuted for battery?

That Social Media Stuff

There's no doubt that applications such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn and Twitter are popular based on the number of users. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they're adding a lot of value other than more noise. After all, illegal drugs, tatoos, fake wrestling are popular too, but look what they do to our society.

Personally I've always tended to go the opposite direction of the crowd. For example, I go to the beach in the winter and ski resorts in the summer. I like it when the crowds are small.

Yes, I am using LinkedIn to some degree, but the long term value is still unproven.
