Duke is a knowledge architect who consults, trains, writes & speaks on management philosophies and technologies. He has been in private practice since 1985, working with organizations in the U.S., Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Europe and Asia. He was formerly a quality professional in TRW's automotive sector, and had also worked in woodworking, metalworking, and security system installation.
He has been elected Fellow of the American Society for Quality and is certified by ASQ as a certified manager of quality/organizational excellence, quality engineer, and quality auditor. He has served as vice chair of technology for ASQ’s Quality Management Division, and chair of the Northeast Tennessee section of ASQ, who recognized him with their quality leadership award. He has taught review courses for ASQ’s CMQ/OE, quality auditor, quality technician, and quality improvement associate certifications, and served as a subject matter expert for ASQ’s Certified Quality Manager section refresher course materials and self-directed learning materials. He is the developer/owner and primary instructor for the Root Cause Analysis course offered by ASQ’s Learning Offerings.
Duke holds undergraduate degrees in technology and business, a masters degree in adult education, and has completed doctoral coursework in applied management and decision sciences. He has served as an adjunct university faculty member teaching statistics and management research. He is also a graduate of the University of Kentucky's lean manufacturing certificate program, the international program in the Gestalt approach to organization and system development, and Columbia Teachers College's advanced program in organization development and human resource management.
He is co-editor of The Certified Quality Manager Handbook (2nd ed.), a contributor to The Certified Quality Engineer Handbook (1st ed.), and has published numerous articles in publications such as Quality Progress, Quality World, Business Improvement Journal, The Manufacturer, APICS-The Performance Advantage, Manufacturing Engineering, The Auditor, and Quality Management Forum. He serves on the editorial advisory board for the International Management Journal and is a regular columnist for The Auditor.
He is a frequent speaker for professional and trade audiences at the local, regional, national, and international levels, including AEM, APICS, ASQ, ASTD, AITP, AOQ, IIA, IIE, IMA, NAPM, SHRM, and SME. He conducts public seminars for a variety of professional societies, training organizations, and universities, and has served as a examiner for the Tennessee Performance Excellence award. He has also worked as a volunteer SCORE counselor to small business and is listed in “Who’s Who in the World.”
